Block of four 1970 U.S. Christmas stamps featuring antique toys. These stamps are Scott #1415-1418, depicting a tin and cast-iron locomotive, toy horse on wheels, mechanical tricycle, and doll carriage. These stamps were issued as an additional Christmas issue to illustrate the joy Christmas brings to children around the world.
The United States Postal Service (USPS) started issuing dual Christmas stamps with both traditional and contemporary themes in 1970. The traditional stamps usually feature religious paintings, while the contemporary ones like these toy stamps depict secular subjects.
The stamps shown in the image can still be used to pay postage on current mail, but you will need to add additional postage to meet the current first-class rate. To use the stamps, it's recommended to use a damp sponge or a glue stick instead of licking the back due to their age.
