• Water-Slide White Backed Decals: These look great on any surface. They even look good on black. Cut closely around the decal before applying for the best results. Looks good on any surface, light or dark.

Important FAQ’s:

1.      These do not arrive quickly. They are made to order, which takes 24 hours just to dry. We offer multiple shipping options, but the least expensive is First Class Mail Envelope, which is not fast. It can take up to two weeks using this method, but it is very inexpensive. We do all we can to ensure your satisfaction, but shipping is where we lose control for a time. Please select the shipping that suits your needs best. The Ground Advantage option is about 4 bucks, and they will arrive much faster and provide tracking so you can watch the journey. Most shipping methods provide tracking; however, the standard envelope only tracks when it is delivered, not where it is in its journey.

2.      Some of these can be very small. They are not precut like the decal sheets you find included in model kits. You must trim them with small scissors or an Exacto knife. By doing this, you ensure a fine addition to your project as you can trim the piece to fit just right. Tortuga Hobby is not responsible for decals that are ruined during application. Instructions for Water-Slide Decals

Instructions:
1. Cut decal to fit, in most cases the more precise the cut the better the decal will look. Clear backed decals will let the background through so they will be more forgiving. White backed decals will need to be cut precisely unless being placed on white surfaces. Decal installation is not an easy thing to do, it does take some experience and practice to get it right. Once you master it, it will completely change modeling as you know it. The ability to add custom decals will elevate your hobby to a new level..

2. Fill your bowl with room temperature water. Submerge your precut decal for 30-60 seconds or until the middle of the decal can easily be slid around. Remove from water.
3. Quickly apply it to your clean decal surface. Position decal, backing side down and gently slide backing off. Keep the backing flush with your project as you gently pull it out from behind the decal. Press firmly, use your fingers, a damp cloth/ paper towel, or a mini squeegee to remove air bubbles. Gently pad off any excess water.
4. Let the decal set and dry for at least 3 hours. Don't expose to direct sunlight during this time.

Faqs

1. What is the optimal water temperature for soaking a decal?
   Between 77°F-86°F or 25°C-30°C. If the water is cooler, it may take longer to release from the backing.
2. What's the difference between the transparent decal and the white waterslide decal?
   The clear or transparent decal is see-through so the base color of your object will show through your printed design.
3. If you do not want your base material to show through the design a white waterslide will be better?
   The white decal has an opaque base color and is great for applying onto darker surfaces.
4. What is the waterslide decal paper thickness paper weight?
   The total paperweight is 210 microns or 200 GSM.
5. How do you remove a waterslide decal once it is dry?
   Once cured it can be a bit difficult to remove waterslide decals. Try soaking in hot water, you can scrape it off while it is soaking, or you could also use the product Goo Gone to remove the decal. For a natural removal alternative, try soaking the decal in vinegar.

   We strongly recommend a decal setting solution that can be found anywhere. We use Microscale’s Micro Set and Micro Sol. You can also use Tamiya, Walthers or Testers. They are around $5-$6 a bottle. This solution will shrink the decals to better fit the surface, especially contoured applications and will really give you a nice-looking finished decal as it contours into any lines or elevation in the project. We have experimented with different brands and have found they are all pretty good so use the one you are comfortable with.
